Big result at Homebush set to drive interest in new diabetes campaign
as Perkins encourages people with diabetes to Join Jacks Journey
Thursday December 3rd 2009: Rising V8 Supercar driver
Jack Perkins is hoping a big result at Homebush can
simultaneously ensure his team finishes the 2009 season
on a high and also raise awareness about a new campaign
that provides opportunities for people with diabetes to
interact, share information and learn from each other about
better diabetes management.
Jack was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2006 at the
age of 19, and since that time has played an active role in
diabetes education for Roche Diagnostics and diabetes
related groups like the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation.
provides personal insights from Jack into how he manages his diabetes in the high pressure world
of elite motor racing, but also provides people with diabetes the opportunity to share hints, tips and
helpful advice with each other. It hopes to even inspire some to really live life and follow their
dreams.
achieve their life goals while managing the challenges of diabetes.
The team went well in Perth and if we perform up to our expectations at Homebush then hopefully
this will also translate into increased awareness and traffic for our diabetes campaign, said Jack.
The Join Jacks Journey campaign is promoted via direct marketing to people with diabetes and it
has direct links to Jacks social marketing activities via Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
The Join Jacks Journey website also has videos starring Jack Perkins produced specifically to
promote the campaign. It tells of his disappointment at his initial diagnosis and his struggle back to
the elite world of V8 motor racing.
Id love it if we could end up with thousands of people all sharing information and their success
stories of how they manage the challenges of diabetes. That is what Join Jacks Journey is all
about - sharing experiences and learning from each other to help all those affected with diabetes to
live their lives to the full and maybe even inspire each other to achieve their dreams, said Perkins.
