The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations (JDRF) newest fundraising event, the Spin to Cure
Diabetes, is going national in 2009 and the aim is to raise $450,000 for the best Australian diabetes
research.
The Sydney Spin to Cure Diabetes will be hosted by Channel Ten Video Hits host, Faustina Agolley,
also known as Fuzzy, who will help inspire the teams to travel as far as they can on a stationary bike.
Crowds of supporters are expected.
With a special Spin DJ churning out inspiring beats, our celebrity MC Fuzzy working the crowd, plus the
cheers of the crowd to spur on the Spinners, Sydney will discover what these dedicated Spinners can
achieve in 8 minutes to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
Mike Wilson, CEO of JDRF, said, The funds raised in this campaign go straight to Australian research
into type 1 diabetes - because only research can find a cure and we need to find it fast.
Families affected by type 1 diabetes need a cure urgently as the rate of new cases in Australian
children is rising by 3% every year.
JDRF supports over 40 research projects in this country, which represents over 200 researchers. These
dedicated scientists have recently broken new ground. Right now, there are more therapies in human
clinical trials than ever before.
Were working to find a cure so children and adults with type 1 diabetes no longer have to endure
multiple daily injections, life threatening hypos and the fear of developing serious complications.

Type 1 Diabetes The Facts
There are 140,000 Australians with type 1 diabetes and with five new cases every day, Australia has one of the highest rates in the world. The
number of Australian children being diagnosed with this disease is increasing by 3% every year. Typically striking young people, type 1 diabetes
destroys the ability to produce insulin, which is vital for life. It requires an essential daily regime of multiple injections or continuous infusion of
insulin through a pump, as well as 6 8 finger-prick blood tests. Type 1 diabetes is associated with a significantly increased risk of serious
health complications. It is an autoimmune disease caused by a complex mixture of genetic and environmental factors. Type 1 diabetes is not
caused by an unhealthy diet or lifestyle. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the worlds largest not-for-profit supporter of diabetes
research and has invested over $1.6 billion since inception in 1970. The mission of JDRF is constant: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its
complications through the support of research.
