PMI Responds to the W Sumatra Earthquake Disaster

Based on report from the location in West Sumatra on Wednesday (1/10), 30 personnel
from emergency center in PMI Bengkulu has been deployed on land transportation with
couple trucks for logistics aid of 2 unit kitchen fields, body bags, tens of tents and 6
others relief items.
Earthquake of 7.6 Scale Richter hit West Sumatra yesterday afternoon, centered in
Pariaman. Emergency center is monitoring the condition. Up to midnight, it was reported
that West Sumatra electricity is down. 75 casualties are confirmed and thousand of
houses severely damaged. At the first day, PMI has deployed 90 personals to the
location.
PMI Chapter West Sumatra has been in coordination with inter-sectorals and conducting
assessment using radio communication because regular communication has been down since
Wednesday evening. PMI is now using radio communication on HF 7,065 MHz.
Through radio communication, the latest info has been received Thursday morning
(1/10). DM center team of PMI NHQ succeed to contact DM center of Bengkulu Branch. The
radio operator of this center, Syaiful reported that this morning 30 personals have been
deployed from Bengkulu, through land
tansportation on trucks containing 2 unit of field kitchens, body bags, tens of army
tents, and 60 other relief items which have not been detailed yet.
"The safe route to take to the location is Bengkulu-Lubuk Linggau-Solok-Padang route.
30 personals consist of 10 volunteers, 10 disaster preparedness unit members and 10
medical personals from PMI Branch Bengkulu," says Syaiful through radio communication
this morning (1/10).
To date, DM center of PMI NHQ has been reported that another shock in Jambi with
heavy rain and thunders. Based on BMKG data, it is 7 SR with 10 km depth, location 2,44
south altitude - 101,59 east longitude (46 km south-east Sungaipenuh, Jambi). There is
no report yet from this aftershock. PMI keeps monitoring the development of situation
Sumatra earthquake.
