SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE PYLONS GO BLUE
IN SUPPORT OF BEYONDBLUE
The RTA today announced the pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be
turning blue in support of beyondblue: the national depression initiative
on
World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2010.
The western side of the pylons will glow blue on Sunday night as part of the
Blues Point Blues Festival being held to raise awareness about depression.
Beyondblue CEO Leonie Young is thrilled Sydneys most famous bridge will
glow blue to raise awareness about depression and anxiety.
We appreciate the RTAs involvement in World Mental Health Day. Having the
pylons of the Harbour Bridge turn blue to focus attention on beyondblues
message that mental health is just as important as physical health is wonderful,
Ms Young said.
Event organisers Lesley French and Jenny Curtis shared a vision to create a
unique festival that would bring the community together and support
beyondblue.
The RTA is pleased to be working with the local community and council to help
beyondblue create awareness on World Mental Health Day, " an RTA
spokesman said.
Over a million people in Australia live with depression and over two million have
an anxiety disorder but with the right treatment, most people recover.
