The City of Melbourne supports International Day of Persons with
Disabilities
The City of Melbourne
is proud to be supporting
community organisations to deliver the citys
International Day of Persons with Disabilities Celebrations on 3 December.
Linda Weatherson, Director, Community & Culture, said that the International Day of Persons with
Disabilities is celebrated around the world and is a time for everyone in our city, along with people with a
disability, their friends, families and carers to celebrate their abilities and contributions to our community.
The City of Melbourne is committed to addressing and promoting the rights of people with disabilities to
equitable, dignified and independent access and participation in all aspects of life. This day is recognised
annually in the citys events calendar and showcases the diversity and skills of all people within our
community, regardless of their ability, Ms Weatherson said.
The following events will be taking place on Wednesday, 3 December, with another due to take place on
Friday, 5 December 2008.

All Abilities Football Festival
The State Netball & Hockey Centre, 10am 1pm, where visitors are invited to come and try wheelchair
football activities and receive show bags; face painting will also be available. Contact Chris Arena,

The Skys the Limit
VicDeaf and a class from Carlton Primary School will be showcasing and flying kites they created in

Melbourne Gift Running Meeting
Princess Park, starts 6.30pm. A variety of race distances ranging from 70 metres to 1600 metres and

Club Wild Open House Music Workshop
North Melbourne Town Hall, 10am-3pm. Featuring Rock Band with the Bipolar Bears, Hip Hop, Brazilian
drumming and dance.
Taking It to the Streets Performance
Music
performance on stage at City Square, 12pm-2pm, featuring the Big Bag Band, DJ Funkmaster
Vinnie, the Wild Divas and Chalker.
Weave Movement Theatre
Theatre performance at North Melbourne Town Hall Arts House. Show starts 12.30pm followed by a 15

Global Dance Party
