MEDIA RELEASE

24 FEBRUARY 2010

VARIETY SPLASH 2010 – SETTING SAIL FOR CHILDREN....

Recreational Boat owners, professional sailors, prominent business owners, special children and an

AFL Football Player are all ready to set their course on Port Phillip Bay for the third annual Variety

Splash.

Variety Splash 2010 will be held from Thursday 25th February to Saturday 27th February and will

include 350 participants aiming to raise over $120,000 for special needs and disadvantaged children.

Variety Splash is similar in style to the infamous Variety Bash involving roads and cars but instead is

about water and boats! The charity event aims to have fun on the water through social and fun filled

activities whilst raising much needed funds for Variety – The Children’s Charity.

The three day, two night rally on Port Phillip Bay will commence at Melbourne Yacht Club Hotel

Waterfront City Docklands with the first leg taking ‘Splashers’ to Sandringham whilst enjoying

entertaining stopovers throughout the day and finishing at the Sandringham Yacht Club for a formal

dinner. On Friday morning ‘Splashers’ will take the rhumb line across the bay to Geelong where they

will be greeted by the Royal Geelong Yacht Club for fun and hospitality off the water. On the final

morning, a relaxing breakfast will be enjoyed by participants before a leisurely approach back to

Waterfront City, Docklands where the finishing line party will take place at Melbourne Yacht Club

Hotel.

This year’s ambassadors for Splash include a number high profile and much loved personalities.

President of Yachting Australia Andrew Plympton, Olympic Gold Medallist Mark Turnbull and

Hawthorn footballer Brad Sewell are among the big names lending their support to this great event.

Variety Victoria is dedicated to transforming the lives of children with special needs providing

opportunities to increase their quality of life and fulfil their potential. It achieves this through the

provision of equipment, facilities and life experiences and by operating a straightforward and

transparent Grants program that draws on the funds raised as a result of events, sponsorships and

donations.
