International Experts Provide Direction for the Next Decade of Healthcare

The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) will again host leading health academics during its annual Executive Masterclass for health industry leaders, aimed at addressing critical industry dilemmas with evidence and international case studies.

Professor John vretveit (Medical Management Centre, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden) and Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite (Centre for Clinical Governance Research, University of NSW) will present this year's topic: Change, Culture and Innovation: Making a better decade for patients and staff.

A pivotal question to be addressed by the Masterclass is how to negotiate and set the agenda and then make sure it gets done. "If you are a health service leader working to improve the safety and quality of healthcare, you are undoubtedly coming to terms with new IT and other systems, clinical procedures, policies and regulations combined with changing community expectations," commented Professor Braithwaite.

"We look at how to prioritise effort so policymakers, managers and clinicians get the best bang for the buck, and avoid running into change fatigue," continued Professor Braithwaite.

The Masterclasses are evidence based, and use local and international research, case studies, peer examples and change management exercises, to explore a variety of ways to tackle these leadership challenges.
