Free eye tests at new Centre for Eye Health

Sydney is about to get a new state-of-the-art eye health centre and all of its services will be

completely free of charge. It will be open to anyone from NSW or the ACT who is referred

there by a doctor or optometrist.

Thousands of people at risk of developing eye diseases are expected to attend the Centre

for Eye Health (CFEH) every year at the Kensington campus of The University of New South

Wales, a joint initiative between the university and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and will cost

about $40 million to operate over the next decade. 

The centre will be opened officially on 4 November by the Governor of NSW, Professor

Marie Bashir AC, CVO. Test cricket legend Geoff Lawson (who is a qualified optometrist and

conducted contact lens research) will be MC and be available for interview.




What: Opening of the Centre for Eye Health

When: 11 am, 4 November 2009 (media interview and filming opportunities from 9.30am)

Where: Ground Floor, Rupert Myers Building University of New South Wales (vehicle entry

via gate 14, Barker Street, Kensington. Public parking available in Barker Street parking
