MEDIA ALERT AND INVITATION
Sydney, Friday 13 November 2009 - On World Diabetes Day, Saturday 14th November, the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation and Abbott Diabetes Care, a division of the global health care company
Abbott, have partnered to help turn the iconic Sydney Opera House blue, in a bid to focus attention on
the need for better understanding of and action on preventing, treating and curing the disease.
Turning the Opera House blue is part of a global awareness campaign organised by the International
Diabetes Federation (IDF). Landmark buildings across the world including the Empire State Building,
London Eye, and the Obelisque in Paris will turn blue in recognition of World Diabetes Day. Abbott
Diabetes Care would like to acknowledge the work of Diabetes Australia-NSW in making a positive
difference to the lives of people living with diabetes and those at risk of diabetes.
Media are invited to join Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation youth ambassadors to witness the
lighting of the Opera House at 7:15pm on Saturday 14th November at Dawes Point Park, Hickson Road
(east side), The Rocks.
