With the heat again upon us and high temperatures forecasted, St John recommends
the following first aid advice to ensure that you are informed of the correct
first aid information for the heat conditions

Be aware of the symptoms of heat stress
some of which could include
persistent headache,
nausea and vomiting, faintness, fatigue, and pale cool clammy skin

If you are with someone who is affected by heat stress, aim to lie the casualty down in a cool
place with circulating air

Remove unnecessary garments and sponge with cold water

Give fluids to drink

If outdoors wear light loose fitting clothing, a wide hat, plus apply and re-apply sunscreen

Keep your fluids up by drinking plenty of water avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks

In high heat conditions, stay indoors and limit outdoor activities where possible

Call 000 it is important to seek medical aid if the casualty vomits or if the casualty does not recover
promptly!

The heat wave conditions are a timely reminder that we should all be correctly
trained in First Aid knowledge, and these skills need to be refreshed on a
regular basis, so we know what to do in an emergency situation states St John
