MEDIA ADVISORY NOTE
WALLY LEWIS CAMPAIGNS FOR EPILEPSY
AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE
Federal politicians came together this morning to listen to Wally Lewis speak about
his epilepsy journey.
At the breakfast at Parliament House Wally described the profound challenges of
living with epilepsy, which ultimately led to surgery.
Now he has his life back, Wally has been giving back. He is generously reaching out
to help others with epilepsy. He has spoken to countless individuals touched by
epilepsy, and has become an enthusiastic campaigner for the cause.
Organized by the Parliamentary Friends of Epilepsy Group, the breakfast marked the
beginning of two days intensive focus on epilepsy at Parliament House. Convenors
Jill Hall MP, Senator Gary Humphries, Senator Claire Moore, and Mark Coulton MP
have instigated the Inquiry into the Impact of Epilepsy in Australia. A large number
of submissions have been received.
Graeme Shears, Chair of the Joint Epilepsy Council of Australia (JECA), said This is
the first time epilepsy has received such attention from Federal Members and
Senators, even though it is the worlds most common serious brain disorder. We
applaud the initiative.
