Young diabetes campers seek fun and adventure
WHEN:
10am 11am,
Wednesday 13 January 2010
WHAT:
A great media/photo opportunity. Nearly 60 children living with type 1 diabetes
will enjoy a fun day at The Adventure Park in Ocean Grove as part of their
week-long diabetes camp in Anglesea.
WHERE:
Adventure Park, 1251 Bellarine Hwy, Wallington.
WHY:
Diabetes camps are being held in Anglesea and Halls Gap throughout January,
giving campers the opportunity to meet other young people who face the same
challenges associated with having diabetes, which can include having four
daily insulin injections or managing new electronic insulin pump technology.
The camps enable many children to achieve the big milestone of injecting
themselves for the first time, helping them become more confident managing
their diabetes and giving them greater independence when they return home.
WHO:
10- 12 year old campers enjoying a day trip activity to The Adventure Park with
camp leaders, medical staff and volunteers. Campers and camp leaders will be
available for interview on the day and throughout the following five-day camps;
Junior Camp: 10-14 January 2010 in Anglesea
Teenage Camp: 17-21 January 2010 in Halls Gap
The Camps are organised by Diabetes Camps Victoria (DCV), a consortium
which includes Diabetes Australia Vic, the Royal Children's Hospital and
Southern Health.
