Expert comment on new Swanston Street plans
All private vehicles and taxis will be banned from Swanston Street and four new
city squares will be established along the thoroughfare under a $25.6 million
redevelopment plan unveiled today by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.
Why cant Melbournes urban planners seem to get Swanston Street right?
What impact could the new redevelopment plans have on liveability and
sustainability in the CBD?
RMIT Universitys Joe Hurley lectures in Strategic Urban Planning and
Environmental Pollution Management.
His research interests include sustainable cities and the future of Melbourne, with
his doctoral research focusing on sustainability and urban planning issues in
Melbourne suburbs.
A lecturer in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning, Mr Hurley
