1.5 Weeks Left to Show Young People Living With Cancer You Care, Wear a Bandanna

Get your bandannas from key* outlets, schools or from street sales on National
Bandanna Day on Friday, 30 October

Australia, 21 October 2009 CanTeen asks all Australians to buy a bandanna during the next 1.5 weeks to wear on National Bandanna Day (www.bandannaday.com.au) Friday, 30 October. There are six fresh bandanna styles including designs by Industrie Clothing, and two from CanTeen Members.

National Bandanna Day is CanTeen's biggest annual fundraiser and awareness day, with this year's goal to sell 1 million bandannas. Wearing your bandanna is a powerful gesture that shows young people living with cancer that they are supported and they are not alone.

Ryland Shand, 14, is a Patient Member of CanTeen who can relate to the feeling of isolation that many young people living with cancer experience.

"When I was going through my cancer treatment, I was bald and I used to wear a bandanna to hide the fact.

"I believe that if other people wear a bandanna on Bandanna Day, it's a great way to show young people like me who are living with cancer especially patients that we still look like everyone else if you put a bandanna on them."

Natalie Gruzlewski, star of Getaway and Farmer Wants a Wife and this year's NBD ambassador for CanTeen, says: "I am glad to support these strong, young individuals living with cancer not only on National Bandanna Day, but all year round."

The money raised from National Bandanna Day funds 80 CanTeen programs, camps and services bringing young people living with cancer together in a secure, supportive environment. CanTeen Members learn to deal with the emotional, physical and realistic issues of cancer in their lives.

New Funky Designs

This year's bandannas include old favourites plus six fresh designs, including one called Faces designed by CanTeen Offspring Member and winner of the National Bandanna Day 2009 Member Design Competition, Yuemei Lim, and Psychedelic Baby by CanTeen Bereaved Offspring Member Jenna Thompson. Other designs are by long-time CanTeen supporters Industrie Clothing.
