Hundreds of happy feet are ready for the challenge of walking more than 10 metres above the ground for 24
hours to raise much needed money for kids with cancer in the Illawarra.
Illawarra Fly General Manager Sean Haylan has agreed to be the first to open a tree top walk in Australia for
24 hours because he understands what regional children with cancer and their families go through. His own
daughter, Jess now 14, was diagnosed with cancer at 14 months and fought her own personal battle with it
for more than seven years.
When Sean told his daughter Jess what he was doing, she said: "I am so proud of you Dad. It's a really good
idea ... it's such a good thing to do."
And when Jess told her school friends what her father was doing, they were just as impressed.
Local school kids, corporate sponsors, local sports champions, community groups and several musical acts
are banding together to help raise over $60,000 to assist local kids in their fight to overcome cancer.
Several local businesses are already onboard to sponsor an hour of local champion and weight-loss
consultant Marion MacLean's 24-hour walk above the canopy of the Illawarra escarpment on the 450m-long
Illawarra Fly tree top walk. This is also a great opportunity for the public to get involved and join in the
walk alongside our local champions during this important 24 hour community event.
Rise Above 4 Local Cancer Kids 24 Hour Walk will be held 5 6 November at the Illawarra Fly Tree Top
Walk near Robertson NSW. For more information about the walk or to make a donation please visit
