Four Extraordinary Volunteers Win NRMA Helping People Awards

Wednesday 21 October 2009: Four outstanding volunteers from NSW will be rewarded for their efforts as this year's winners of the annual NRMA Helping People Awards.

NRMA's Helping People Awards recognise volunteers from NSW and the ACT who volunteer for a charity or not-for-profit organisation.

NRMA Motoring & Services Group CEO Tony Stuart said selection of the top four volunteers was extremely tough with this year's winners chosen from almost 450 worthy nominations.

The winners are inspiring individuals whose charity work makes a difference, Mr Stuart said.

The winners of this year's NRMA Helping People Awards will each receive a great Australian getaway for two through NRMA Travel, NRMA Holiday Parks and Travelodge as well as a $5,000 donation to help continue the wonderful work of their charity.

Details of the winners and their charities are as follows:

* COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER AWARD: Mrs Chana Kavka, Bondi NSW. Prize: A $1,000 accommodation voucher to use at any one of NRMA's five Holiday Parks and a fuel voucher to the value of $500. Donation: Chana's $5000 donation will go towards the ongoing work of Sydney Friendship Circle which can be viewed online at www.sydneyfc.org.

* SENIOR VOLUNTEER AWARD: Rosemary Laing, Stroud NSW Prize: A five night NRMA Travel package to the Mantra Resort in Cairns and Mantra Heritage Port Douglas including flights. Donation: Rosemary's $5000 donation will go towards expanding the services of the Riding for the Disabled Association, RDA, in the Raymond Terrace and Lower Hunter region. * ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEER AWARD: Graham Pinney, Cootamundra NSW Prize: A five night package to Travelodge Mirambeena Resort in Darwin and flights. Donation: Graham's $5000 donation will go towards further developing the work and resources of the Muttama Creek Regeneration Group.

* YOUNG VOLUNTEER AWARD: Josh Doyle, Oyster Bay NSW Prize: A five night package to Travelodge Brisbane Gateway Hotel including flights and a three Park Fun Pass. Donation: Josh's $5000 donation will go towards further developing the work and resources of See Change Community Services. The four deserving winners will attend a special presentation ceremony at the NRMA's Head Office in Sydney on Thursday 12 November to receive their awards.
