BRONTE HOUSE
Spring Open Days 2008
Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st September
Bronte House, Sydneys Premier Heritage Garden, will be open to the public on
September 20th and 21st. Famed for its David Austin roses, succulent and
perennial collections and its eclectic mix of traditional Victorian plantings and
exotica, the magnificently restored garden at Bronte House will be in full Spring
colour and fragrance. A particular highlight will be the display of 10,000
flowering yellow and orange clivea.
Myles Baldwin, head gardener and author of Period Gardens, Landscapes for
Houses with History, will be on hand throughout the weekend to answer
horticultural questions and to sign copies of his book.
The open day on Sunday will be hosted by Bronte Public School. They will be
displaying their art and poetry created under the guidance of author Libby
Hathorn and artist Pat Granville Smith under the title 100 Views of Bronte House.
At noon they will provide entertainment with a band performance.
This mid-nineteenth century house and garden, is perched in and above the
parkland valley leading to Bronte Beach. It offers an idyllic destination or resting
place for those doing the cliff walk from Bondi to Bronte. BYO lunch or on
Sunday try a sausage from the barbeque. Cakes, coffee and cold drinks will also
be available.
