REGIS INALA VILLAGE COMMUNITY VEGETABLE GARDEN OFFICIALLY OPENS
Retirement and aged care complex Regis Inala Village today officially launched its community
vegetable garden.
The new garden is an important feature of the Inala Village community providing residents of the
both the retirement village and aged care homes the opportunity to not only enjoy the company of
likeminded gardeners but to also enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Community gardens have become rare over the past decade but are important in not only
keeping seniors active and providing important interaction but they also provide access to freshly
grown produce at little or
no cost, Regis Inala Village Commercial Business Manager Edzard
Batenburg said.
When we move out of the family home and into smaller styles of accommodation often the
pleasure of gardening is one of the biggest areas missed. With wonderful grounds such as ours
we are able to provide the simple pleasure of gardening and growing fresh vegetables and herbs
to our residents once again, he added.
Residents from the independent living units along with Inala Villages gardener operate the main
vegetable garden whilst special high planter boxes have been placed around the complex for less
mobile residents of Inala Villages three aged care homes.
Bunnings Box Hill, a supporter of many community projects, donated not only materials but also
the time of its staff members to assist in getting this project up and running.
With the assistance of Bunnings we have been able to bring to life our vision of a community
garden for all residents to enjoy for many years to come, Mr. Batenburg said.
Regis Inala Village is a unique mix of retirement and aged care living on 8.5 hectares of tranquil
gardens and surrounds in the heart of Blackburn. Residents enjoy a warm and friendly lifestyle
set in a true village environment that is both safe and secure. The village also features its own
supermarket, chapel, coffee shop, card and gift shop, heated swimming pool and day therapy
centre.
