Only two weeks left to nominate for the 2008 Melbourne Awards

Melburnians have until Friday 16 May to submit their nominations for the 2008 Melbourne Awards,

which recognises the outstanding contributions of individuals, community organisations and

corporations to the city’s profile, community and environment.

Lord Mayor John So says the Melbourne Awards celebrate the dedication, vision and hard work

of Melburnians and encourages everyone to submit their nominations before time runs out.

“I urge everyone to nominate an individual, group or business who deserves to be recognised

through these prestigious awards,” Lord Mayor John So said.

“The Melbourne Awards is now in its sixth year and every year it’s so exciting to hear the

amazing work being done by Melburnians which help make our city one of the best in the world,”

Cr So said.

Nominations received so far include Lauren Baird, founder of Stop the Black Balloons, Major

Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army, car sharing business,

Flexicar, green star rated

accommodation, Alto Hotel on Bourke, and community groups the Asylum Seeker Resource

Centre and Secondbite.

“Nominations are closing soon and I know there are many more out there that also deserve to be

recognised through the Melbourne Awards. Now is the time to nominate them and say ‘Thank

You’,” Cr So said.

Melburnians can nominate themselves or someone they know by visiting

03 9658 9327 during business

hours.

Winners will be announced on Melbourne Day, Saturday 30 August, at a gala Awards ceremony

at the Melbourne Town Hall.
