SLOPE STABILISATION WORK
STARTS THIS WEEK
The RTA is advising motorists there will be some slope stabilisation work carried out
on Putty Road at Colo Heights and Mellong from this week.
Work is planned to start Tuesday November 3 2009, weather permitting, and will be
carried out during the day from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday. There might be some
night work if required.
During these times the two-lane road will be reduced to one lane and traffic
controllers will be in place to allow motorists to pass the work sites safely.
The work will be carried out at five separate locations along the road, at separate
times, and is planned for completion June 2010.
The sites have been identified as areas that require work to make them even safer in
the long term. This work is part the RTAs routine maintenance program.
The improvements include:
Removing some loose shrubs and trees to minimise the risk of falling debris
onto the road
Cutting away loose rock edges to make the rock face more stable
Removing loose rocks from the area
Placing a concrete cover over some of the rock face making it less likely that
loose rocks will fall onto the road.
The RTA would like to thank motorists for their patience while the RTA carries out
this work.
