CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY RESPONDS TO FALSE ALLEGATIONS OF
DISCRIMINATION
In response to media concerning false allegations about the Church of
Scientology in relation to the gay community, the Church of Scientology
Australia President Rev. Vicki Dunstan issued the following statement:
We oppose discrimination of any sort and practice a policy of inclusion
among our parishioners. We are staunch defenders of human rights.
I understand that Director Paul Haggis had a disagreement with the
Church that went beyond having anything to do with Scientology. He
wanted the Church to take an active, official political stance when we
do not take stances on political issues and are in fact prohibited from
doing so by our constitution.
We believe that each person as a spiritual being and that the true
individual is not his body or gender, but an immortal spiritual being.
The spirit doesn't have a gender, so sexuality isn't an issue.
Scientologists follow a common-sense moral code called The Way To
Happiness, which advises one to "not be promiscuous" and to "Be
faithful to your sexual partner". Our Creed states that all men are
created with equal and inalienable rights. Spiritual freedom is only
possible in a world where human rights are fully respected.
