CONNECTING THE DARY INDUSTRY ONLINE

At 7.30pm Tuesday night (December 8) Australian dairy farmers tuned in from their home computers to view DairyLive: Feed Conversion Efficiency - an interactive webinar by Dairy Australia.

Running for more than 60 minutes, DairyLive offered dairy farmers around Australia the opportunity to explore critical dairy cow feed issues with world leading animal nutritionists Dr Fernando Bargo, Associate Professor in Dairy Science at the University of Buenos Aires; and Dr David Beever from the UK, and showcased Australian experts Dr Steve Little, Dr Bill Wales and Ian Lean.

Dairy Australia Managing Director Mike Ginnivan said that the webinar format enabled dairy farmers to hear information crucial to their business in an easy to access way.

"Using technology similar to what we used for the inaugural Diary Live event in June, we have been able to deliver valuable content that farmers accessed easily.

"For dairy farmers developing the most cost effective feed base is vital to help them deal with a range of challenges they are facing at the moment. Understanding how to maximise productivity through various feeding systems can save farmers hundreds of dollars per cow each year," Dr Ginnivan said.

Dairy Live was also interactive, with viewers able to phone a 1800 number and ask a panel of local animal feed experts questions live during the webinar.

Dr Ginnivan said the ability to stream the presentation live into viewer's homes was building on new ways to deliver information for the dairy industry.

"This is another step in using technology to help us disseminate useful information to not only farmers, but those who work with them including advisors, service providers and local animal nutritionists."

"And because it was interactive, dairy farmers were able to ask questions specific to their business right from their home. We are continuing to develop the technology and are keen to feature other topics important to Australian dairy farmers." Dr Ginnivan said.

More than 400 participants registered to view DairyLive.
